- On Wednesday, Nov. 7 the National Weather Service is calling for showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy with a high near 78. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

The McKenzie Boat Ramp in Southport is closed until further notice due to damage from Hurricane Michael, and, once repaired, will be repurposed to aid in the removal of hurricane-damaged vessels to clean up the bay and ensure safe navigation of important waterways.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), with assistance from Bay County, have begun assessing vessels affected by Hurricane Michael for potential pollution and navigation threats.
Since Nov. 2, teams have assessed 725 vessels, or more than 50 percent of the identified targets in the affected areas. Of those, 199 have been marked as needing additional action, which may include further monitoring, hazardous material removal and/or vessel removal.
Vessels will be transported from the McKenzie Boat Ramp to the Bay County Landfill on Steelfield Road. The FWC will oversee this important project. During this time, the public is asked to use alternate boat ramps to access the bay; Donald Penny Boat Ramp on County 2302 in Southport is the closest alternative.
Property owners interested in reporting a wrecked vessel found on their property or boat owners looking for their lost vessel as a result of Hurricane Michael can call the Northwest Regional Communication Center at (850) 245-7716. Vessel owners who have located their vessel and have a specific salvage plan can call (850) 488-5600 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Vessel owners are encouraged to hire a professional salvage company to recover their vessel in order to provide the safest method possible for their vessel and the environment.
Are you an organization who is currently in need of volunteers to help with Hurricane Michael recovery efforts? Contact the Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) at (850) 960-4235. The VRC is located at 7734 Franklin Ave., at the Southport Community Center, and is open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The VRC receives and assigns volunteers to areas of the most critical need in Bay County. Volunteer organizations may contact the VRC for assignment, or to request volunteers for specific projects. All volunteer groups should scan and send their volunteer hour logs to Maranda Griffin at firstname.lastname@example.org for all hours tracked to be reported to FEMA.
Legal Services of Northwest Florida will be available to provide legal information in the following areas: preventing wrongful evictions, assistance with insurance claims, helping residents receive FEMA assistance, challenging scams and contractor fraud, helping residents with public benefits and more. The Legal Clinic for Landlords and Tenants scheduled for Wednesday, November 7, 2018, will still be held. The LOCATION HAS CHANGED. It will be held inside the Bay High School Gymnasium off Harrison Avenue. The hours are 10 AM to 2 PM. Landlords and tenants are encouraged to attend to have their questions answered.
